Arrest Made In Killing At Bridgeport Illegal Gambling Club

Police in Fairfield County arrested the first of several anticipated in connection with the shooting deaths of two armed men who robbed an illegal gambling club earlier this year.

Sean Ellam, age 38, of Bridgeport, turned himself in to detectives on Tuesday, May 28, on an active felony warrant for the Saturday, March 30 incident in Bridgeport.

According to Det. Jeffrey Holtz of the Bridgeport Police, shortly after 11 p.m. on March 30. officers responded to reports of numerous people shot at Stratford Avenue and Logan Street. 

Richard Davis, age 30, and Tayvon Geter, age 32, both of Bridgeport, were found outside that location suffering from gunshot wounds. They were later pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital. 

 Two other people arrived at the hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both report they were shot inside the club.

A crime scene was located inside the club at 1542 Stratford Ave. The evidence indicates a gunfight occurred in the club.

During a press conference in early April, Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim and Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter Sr. encouraged the community to report the presence of after-hours clubs in their neighborhoods to help prevent similar crimes. The club has since been closed down.

Ellam was charged with:

  • Criminal possession of a firearm
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Stealing a firearm

Ellam's arrest resulted from his actions following the shootings. 

His bond is $75,000.
